Kate froze when Cal led her to Taggart Hall. It was a dorm she was intimately familiar with. One of her college boyfriends roomed there and Kate spent almost as much time in his room that semester as she did in hers. The dorm floors were segregated by gender back then, and Kate always felt vulnerable being the only girl on a floor of guys when she had to run to the bathroom or sneak out in the middle of the night. All the leering boys knew exactly what she’d been up to in that dorm room. Those old worries popped up in her mind as Cal pulled her by the hand, leading her to the front door of Taggart Hall.

“Cal, wait. I can’t go into your dorm,” she protested, planting her feet, and stopping them on the lawn in front of the building.

“No one cares, Kate. The whole dorm is coed now.”

“I’m not that old, Cal. We had coed dorms in my time. They were separated by floors, but they were coed.

“That’s not how it is anymore. I have girls right next door to me. There are girls all over my floor. No one will even notice us.”

“I’m not just another college girl, Cal.”

“That’s what makes you so hot,” he replied, trying to pull her into a kiss.

“Cal, not here,” she complained.

Kate’s stomach flipped, while her body burned with frustration. The short walk across the humid campus had sharpened her focus, pulling Kate out of her Fireball-induced haze. They didn’t pass any adults—anyone Kate considered an adult—but she felt the looks the students they passed gave her. They seemed split between thinking Kate was a visiting parent on campus with her son—even if they were pressed oddly close for parent and child—and seeing the situation for what it was, cheering Cal for bagging the drunken MILF. Neither reaction pleased Kate. She’d just been in Cal’s lap making out with him. She did not want to be confused with his mother. She also didn’t want them thinking she was some drunk, horny housewife out for a thrill—even if that was partially true. So, her stomach churned as the very strong desire to fuck Cal warred with the practical thought that this was a terrible idea.

“No one is even going to notice you, Kate. Anyone who’s out this late is too drunk to pay attention to us. We’ll just slip right into my room.”

“This is crazy.”

“Don’t you want to get a little crazy tonight, Kate? Isn’t that why you went to Carey’s? Won’t fucking in a dorm room be hot?”

Fucking in a dorm room would be insane. This was her daughter’s school. Thank god it wasn’t Avery’s dorm. God, what if she ran into Avery out here on campus? Her eyes darted around in a sudden fit of paranoia. Kate hoped that party went very late. She didn’t want to be out in the open with Cal any longer, and the devil on her shoulder kindly pointed out that his dorm room was the closest place to get away from prying eyes.
